Fielding Fundamentals

 

Outfield Level 1 Outfielders (minimal/no experience)
It is essential to work on your fielding footwork (initial step toward the ball, route and footwork through the catch) and short route ball tracking. (learn more)
 
Level 2 Outfielders (two to four years of experience)
At this level, working on taking the shortest route to the ball, coming through the ball as you throw and picking the ball up earlier and more accurately are key fundamentals. (learn more)
 
Level 3 Outfielders (five or more years of experience)
By the time you have reached level three, you should be able to perform tasks relative to all "routine" fly and ground balls and concentrating on talking away base hits. Although it recommended to work on earlier level skills regularly, new skills ought to target repetitions for taking away singles in front of you and extra base hits to the line and in the gap. Infield
Level 1 Infielders (minimal/no experience)
Footwork and body position are important to develop at the primary level of infielding. Balanced footwork and a balanced body (with hands out in front) are essential in this phase of development. (learn more)
 
Level 2 Infielders (two to four years of experience)
At this level, working on getting a good first step and fielding through the ball to put your body in position to make a strong and accurrate throw are some main developmental goals. (learn more)
 
Level 3 Infielders (five and greater years of experience)
Level three infielders should continue to get repetitions with routine plays to continue to work on judging hops and using fluid footwork. Also, infielders at this level should work on breaking toward the predicted ball path as quickly as possible to take away base hits in the hole and up the middle. (learn more)
